A commitment ceremony can be beautiful and the most alternative event imaginable: a ritual to bless your relationship, or just a big party to celebrate your love.
It is a ceremony in which two people commit their lives to one another, through vows, exchanging rings, or other similar means. It can look just like a legally binding wedding, complete with wedding attire and all your friends and relatives in attendance, OR it could be a more intimate exchange between you and your partner, BUT it is not legally binding and does not affect the legal marital status of the two people. It does not result in the couple becoming legally married.
